New Orleans, LA. Health 2.0 New Orleans Launches from NOBIC; NOLA City Health Commissioner, Karen DeSalvo, to Keynote Kickoff Meeting July 18th.
As part of a worldwide network with chapters in 64 Cities, Health 2.0 is a global convening organization for healthcare technology entrepreneurs, encouraging innovation through meet-ups, code-a-thons and developer challenges. As the latest addition to this network, a group of local healthcare executives are launching the Health 2.0 New Orleans chapter this summer.
The chapter is open to anyone interested in healthcare technology. Membership includes healthcare professionals, technology professionals, life science executives, hospital administrators, policy makers, entrepreneurs, students and the venture capital community. The larger Health 2.0 organization, with headquarters in San Francisco, holds annual conferences around the World on technology related topics that include improving the patient-physician relationship, tracking sensors, mobile health application adherence, and big data analytics.
Though New Orleans has turned a corner with a new wave of entrepreneurship, the group says they want to create a forum to attract some of that talent into the local health and wellness sector. “Healthcare has unique technological, regulatory, and economic considerations.” Said co-founder, Rahlyn Gossen, who runs online clinical trial recruitment firm, Rebar Interactive. “A specialized group can foster new opportunities, here in New Orleans, by tapping into the Global Health 2.0 resources for new ways of thinking.”
The non-profit organization will sponsor a series of networking and speaking events that focus on the Health 2.0 agenda, while showcasing new startups and other resources to the local community.
“We really wanted to bring more awareness to digital health opportunities and support local entrepreneurs with a platform to network and learn about healthcare technologies outside of New Orleans, but also hear from local leadership about the healthcare challenges that are unique to this community.” Said Lem Sanders, another one of the group’s co-founders, along with David Crais and Josh Raley.
Health 2.0 New Orleans will host a kickoff meeting on July 18th with a keynote address from Dr. Karen DeSalvo, the New Orleans City Health Commissioner. The event will take place at the New Orleans BioInnovation Center and limited seating is available. More info can be found at www.health2nola.com.
